We’re transitioning from the sweltering heat of summer here in Austin which means more outdoor activities! ACL and Formula 1 often steal the spotlight but there’s a plethora of local events for you and your family to enjoy this October. It’s spooky season, so don’t miss out on all things pumpkin and fright before the hectic holidays begin! Keep reading to see the things to do in Austin in October.
Come to the Austin Zoo any Saturday evening in October for a family-friendly Halloween experience. However, make sure to dress in your best Halloween costume. There’s a haunted house, a haunted train ride, and a fun animal show! Tickets can be purchased here.
Come out to Sweet Berry Farm in Marble Falls, through November 5th! You’ll enjoy a hayride, 3 different mazes, pony rides, pumpkin painting, a ton of pumpkins, and plenty more!
Secondly, Sweet Eats Adventure Farm in Georgetown will be hosting its own fall festival through November 12th! Explore their Instagram-worthy pumpkin patch, corn maze, petting zoo, food trucks, and more.
Additionally, the historic Dr. Pound Historical Farmstead is also hosting a pumpkin festival through October 29th! Check out the Dripping Springs Pumpkin Festival any weekend in October. Each weekend will have a different theme. Enjoy fall-inspired games, seasonal food, photo ops, and of course a pumpkin patch.
If you want to take a haunted tour with your family this month, you have plenty of options! Haunted ATX is a mobile ghost tour around Austin with public van tours and private hearse limo tours. Alternatively, Austin Ghost Tours is a guided walk where you’ll see some of the most haunted places in Austin. Saturday, October 28th is the 17th Annual Murder, Mayhem, and Misadventure Walking tours. Each tour lasts around 45 minutes and you have several times to choose from.
House of Torment is a world-famous haunted house here in Austin that you won’t want to miss. If you want to get outside of town, visit Scream Hollow Wicked Halloween Park located in Smithsville. Brave four different haunted houses, plus check out their unique vampire bar.
Bring your kids to the Art Garage for a camp full of Halloween-inspired art. Make pumpkin pottery, paint a canvas, and make a spooky craft! There are 2 locations in Oak Hill and Brentwood. Buy tickets here.
Join a magical journey through family classics. Enjoy the music of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, brought to life through narration. More info can be found here.
Don’t miss out on the Halloween favorite for free at Mueller Lake Park! Come out at 6:30. Most importantly, don’t forget a blanket or a chair.

Come out to Lake Pflugerville Park for a 5K, 10K, or half marathon! Featuring an after-party where you can run through the haunted trails, compete in a costume contest, enjoy live music, and more. Tickets can be purchased here.
Come out to Georgetown Square and wear your favorite costumes! There will be a trunk and treat, a pet costume contest, shopping, food vendors, and more!
Come climb in your favorite costume! Austin Bouldering Project is hosting a Halloween party with guest passes at only $10. Enjoy free craft beer, a costume contest, and spooky-themed climbs. Furthermore, you can get a scary flash tattoo and shop mystical vendors.
Hosted by Lazarus Brewing Co., come out and run a 5K and finish strong with a beer! There will also be door prizes, live music, games, goodies, and giveaways! Get your ticket here.
Come out to Scholz Garden for the annual Oktoberfest. Scholz Garden is the oldest operating tavern in the state of Texas. This festival celebrates German heritage through beer, sausage, live music, and bowling!
Hosted at the German Free School, and brought to you by the German Heritage Society. The 20th annual Oktoberfest will have a German band line-up and of course beer and brats.
The city of Pflugerville is back at it again with its 47th annual pfest! There’s a family fun run, vendors, live music, and more! Most importantly, be sure to bring the whole family, and wear costumes!
