You should not be alone in the confusing process of fighting for more money, and you should not have to pay out of pocket for things that can be covered.
It is important to make sure your insurance company did their due diligence by covering everything that was damaged by the storm. This includes but is not limited to, code upgrades. Code compliance items can vary by county. However, insurance companies and adjusters are not always up to speed on all the requirements for every house they are inspecting. It is common to find discrepancies in line items. For example, drip edge, the edge metal that protects the perimeter of your home, or cricket flashing, that diverts water away from the chimney. Since most policies include coverage for code upgrades, you are owed for those upgrades that are required to re-roof your house.
Just like a code upgrade, other line items might require supplements. We are limited in our ability to fight for you with your insurance company without access to your claim information and what the adjuster approved to payout. For example, they might have missed damaged items, the material cost could be higher than they estimated, and/or a larger replacement is required than what they estimated.
We want to make sure that everyone involved with your insurance claim is on the same page. Your insurance wants to see that we completed the line items they paid for. We want to ensure you understand their scope of work and for ours to reflect the same. When billing your insurance company, they must have a clear understanding that everything went the way it was supposed to and that no mistakes were made.
Access to your insurance claim gives us the ability to ensure you get paid your depreciation correctly, with no looming questions in between. We are experts in insurance claims, and we work to ensure our customers get everything they should be from their insurance company.
